Having said that, I would like you to make your decision, once you read all the features and comparisons.

Let’s get started…..

This Post is about Granite vs Marble vs Quartz: Which countertop is best

Different Types of Countertops:

Granite Countertops

  • Granite is a natural stone. It is mined from stone quarries.
  • granite is an igneous rock. It’s formed from the cooling of magma beneath the earth’s surface.
  • Granite has main minerals like quartz and feldspar, that give granite its distinctive speckled appearance.
  • Granite slabs are one of the hardest material available.

Pros of Granite:

Colors Availability :  Granite is available in a wide range of colors.

Durability: Granite is one of the most durable natural stones, second only to diamond.

It is highly heat resistant. That means you can put hot pots directly on the surface.

It’s also resistant to scratches, and stains. That is why it is a popular choice for kitchen countertops and bathroom countertops.

Unique Appearance: No two slabs of granite are exactly the same, so each countertop is unique, offering a wide range of patterns and colors.

Adds Value: Granite countertops can add significant value to a home. Many potential buyers see them as a premium feature.

Easy to Clean: When properly sealed, granite countertops are very low maintenance. To clean the slab of granite, you need a soft microfiber cloth and mild soap.

Long-lasting: With proper care, granite countertops can last a lifetime.

Unsealed Granite: What Happens When You Don’t Seal it?

Cons of Granite

Granite Countertop Price : Granite is a premium material, and the average cost of the countertops can be high, especially for rare types.

Granite countertops range from $45-100/SF installed.

Maintenance: Granite is a porous material.

It needs to be sealed regularly to be maintained.

If the sealer is not applied periodically, the porous surface will absorb liquids. This can cause staining.

Heavy: Granite is a heavy material, and the base cabinets must be strong enough to support its weight.

Difficult to Repair: If a granite countertop gets chipped or cracked, it can be difficult and costly to repair.

Marble Countertops:

  • Marble is also a natural stone.
  • Marble is a metamorphic rock.
  • It’s  formed when limestone is subjected to high heat and intense pressure.
  • Its primary components are calcite and dolomite.

Pros of Marble:

Luxurious Appearance: Marble is a timeless classic.

Its classic beauty is unparalleled and can add a sophisticated touch to your kitchen.

It’s the best option, if looks is a high priority for your design.

Unique: Like granite, every slab of marble is unique, with its own patterns and veining.

This can give your new countertops a distinct, personalized look.

Durable: Marble is durable and can withstand daily kitchen activities.

Increases Home Value: Installing marble countertops can increase your home’s value due to its luxury appeal.

What’s better Between Honed Vs polished Marble

Cons of Marble:

Expensive: Marble is a high-end material, and the cost of the countertops can be quite high.

Marble slabs are one of the most expensive countertop materials.

The counter top price range is  $75-$200 per square foot just for the material itself.

Prone to Scratches: Marble is softer than materials like granite, making it more susceptible to scratches.

Prone to Stains: Marble is porous, so if it’s not sealed properly, it can absorb liquids and stain quite easily.

Acidic substances like lemon juice or vinegar can etch the marble surface.

Heat Resistance : Marble is not heat resistant. Putting hot pans can cause permanent damage to the top surface. Always use hot pads when handling hot items.

Maintenance: Marble requires regular sealing to maintain its look and prevent staining.

This natural material requires more maintenance than granite.

Can Chip: Due to its softer nature, heavy pots or mugs dropped on a marble countertop can cause it to chip.

May Darken Over Time: Depending on the type of marble and the sealant used, marble can develop a patina or darken over time.

Quartz Countertops:

granite vs marble vs quartz bathroom countertops

Quartz countertops are actually engineered stone products. That means it is a man-made material which contains a high percentage of natural quartz.

Quartz slabs are produced by combining crushed quartz crystals with resins and pigments.

Pros of Quartz:

Colors Availability :Quartz countertops are available in various colors.

Since it is a man-made product, you can find quartz that mimic natural stone countertops.

Durability: Quartz countertops are extremely durable due to the combination of quartz and resin.

They are scratch, heat, and stain-resistant.

Low Maintenance: Unlike granite and marble, quartz doesn’t need to be sealed.

This makes it easier to maintain over time. This makes quartz countertops a good choice.

Consistent Appearance: Quartz countertops are engineered, so they have a more consistent color and pattern than natural stone.

Non-Porous: Quartz is non-porous, which means it won’t absorb liquids, won’t stain, and is more hygienic.

Long-lasting: With proper care, quartz countertops remain in good shape and can last a lifetime.

Quartz Countertop Care: Do I Really Need to Seal Them?

Cons of Quartz :

Not as Heat Resistant: Although quartz is heat resistant, it’s not as tolerant to high temperatures as granite. It’s advised to use hot pads or trivets when placing hot items on a quartz countertop.

Expensive: Quartz is a high-end countertop material and can be pricey.

Quartz counters, although are less expensive than high-end natural stone options.

If we compare quartz vs marble on cost, quartz is a cheaper option.

Quartz countertops can range from $35 – $80/SF for the material

Not Suitable for Outdoor: UV rays from the sun can react with resin. This can cause the colors in quartz countertops to fade over time. Quartz is not suitable for outdoor kitchens.

Heavy: Quartz is a heavy material, and your cabinets and floors will need to be strong enough to support it.

Less Natural Look: Since quartz countertops are engineered, they may not have the same natural look and depth of color as natural stone.

Although, I have listed the average cost of these materials, I would always recommend researching the prices in your area. Professional installation is required for all three countertop materials.
